Address

Search the Address field by entering the name of an institution and/or place name from an author's address. Combine an Address search with an Author search to broaden or narrow your search results.

Note To display this field on the Search page, review the instructions for Add Another Field.

Guidelines for Entering Address Terms

Use Booleans (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME) to combine addresses to broaden or narrow search results.

Use wildcards to search for variants of words.

  • Univ* matches University, Universidad, Univ.

  • Inst* matches Institute, Instituto, Inst.

  • Dep* matches Department, Departamento, Dept, Dep.
Use the SAME operator to search for two or more words that appear within the same address. For example:
  • Univ* SAME Maryland SAME Baltimore finds records containing some form of the address University of Maryland at Baltimore.

  • Harvard SAME Med* finds records where Harvard and any word starting with the letters Med are in the same address.

Note Harvard AND Med* will find the same records as Harvard SAME Med* but it will also find irrelevant records. For example, you might find records in which the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and harvard.edu is in the same Address field, which is not what you intended.

Search Tips

To search on an address that contains a Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME), enclose the name in quotation marks. Example: Portland "OR"

Because the Address field may include the following information, try searching on various addresses at the same time.

  • Department name
  • Corporate division
  • Institution
  • Organization name
  • Street address
  • City
  • Town
  • County
  • State
  • Province
  • Zip Code
  • Postal code
  • Country

When searching for records from the state of Delaware, enter as many address terms that you know. For example, DuPont SAME Newark SAME DE finds records in which DuPont, Newark, and DE appear in the address.
