This index allows you to select one or more authors or editors to add to your search query. Selected names are searched in the Author(s) field of a record.

Browse Option

Click a letter (A-Z) to browse through a list of names alphabetically. This feature is useful if you do not know the correct spelling of a name.

Move To Option

1. Enter a name or the first few characters of a name in the text field.

2. Click the Move To button to go to a list of names that begin with the characters that you entered.

3. Click the Add button to select a name from the list. The selected name is added to the text box at the bottom of the page.

4. Click OK to transfer the selected name(s) to the search page.

Did You Know ...

The selected timespan appears in the right-hand corner of the index. The index contains all searchable names (and a record count) for this timespan.

Search Tip

If a surname contains a hyphen or apostrophe, be sure to move to different sections of the index to find variants of the same name. O BRIEN is not adjacent to OBRIEN in the index.

Editing Search Terms

You cannot edit or remove a selected name from the text box at the bottom of the page. You can, however, edit or remove a name when you return to the search page.

About Booleans

If an author's name (or set of initials) contains a word that is a Boolean operator, then that part of the name is enclosed in quotation (") marks.

Example: Or E will appear as "Or" E
