Address

Search the Address field by entering the name of an institution and/or place name from an author's address. Combine an Address search with an Author search to broaden or narrow your search results.

Note Although the author name displays in the Address field in the Full Record, it is not searchable. Only address information is searchable.

Note To display this field on the Search page, review the instructions for Add Another Field.

Guidelines for Entering Address Terms

Use wildcards to search for variants of words.

  • Univ* matches University, Universidad, Univ.

  • Inst* matches Institute, Instituto, Inst.

  • Dep* matches Department, Departamento, Dept, Dep.
Because the Address field in Zoological Record contains one address, you can use either AND or SAME to search for two or more words that appear within the same address. For example, these are equivalent searches:
  • Univ* SAME Maryland SAME Baltimore

  • Univ* AND Maryland AND Baltimore

Examples

  • Wellington AND New Zealand
  • Zoology AND Ghana
  • Portlan SAME Oregon

Search Tip

To search on an address that contains a Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME), enclose the name in quotation marks. Example: Portland "OR"

Stopwords and Address Abbreviations

Certain stopwords are also abbreviations of states and provinces. You can search for these abbreviations in the Address field. For example, London SAME ON will retrieve records of articles in which the author address contains the city name London and the abbreviation for Ontario.
