Guidelines for Entering Address Terms
Use wildcards to search for variants of words.
Use Booleans (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME) to combine addresses to broaden or narrow search results.
The SAME operator is useful in an Address search because it specifies that the terms joined by the operator be in the same address and not just in the same field.
For example, the search query IBM SAME NY will retrieve records with this address in the Address field:
The search IBM AND NY will retrieve all of the records that IBM SAME NY retrieves. In addition, it will retrieve records in which IBM and NY are in the Address field but they are in different addresses. For example, IBM AND NY will retrieve a record that contains these two addresses:IBM Res Corp, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 USA

Search Tip
To search on an address that contains a Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME), enclose the name in quotation marks. Example: Portland "OR"
Also, try spelling out the full address. Example: Oregon OR "OR" AND Portland
Address Abbreviations
Common address terms and many institution names are abbreviated in Web of Science. Refer to the following lists:
Common address abbreviations such as Univ, Med, and Phys must be entered as part of an address phrase. For example, Penn State Univ is acceptable, but Univ alone is not.
