What's New in Web of Science
The latest version of Web of Science includes the following new
features.

Remotely access Web of Knowledge anywhere at anytime using your
personal username and password.
-
Go mobile by accessing Web of Knowledge anywhere at anytime using your phone
or device by going to m.webofknowledge.com.
-
Add your published works to your publication's list in ResearcherID from
either the Results or Full Record pages using the ResearcherID button.
-
Primary author always displays in the Cited Author column on the Cited
Reference Search selection page followed by the searched author (secondary
author) if the source record is within the current product database.
-
The Citation Report now includes:
-
An "Average Citation Count per Paper" column that calculates the average
number of citations to articles in the results set since the articles were
published.
-
A "Sum of the Times Cited without Self-Citations" count that calculates the
total number of citations to all results found in the results set minus any
citation from articles in the set.
-
A Save as Excel File output option.
-
Search for records by Digital Object Identifier (DOI) numbers using the DOI
search field on the General and Advanced Search pages.
-
Redesigned pages and buttons on the Results, Full Record, and Marked List
pages allow for cleaner, simpler navigation.

Refine your search by Subject Category using traditional and broader subject
areas.
-
Narrow the results of an Author Finder search by using the "Select author
name variant" feature from the Distinct Author Sets page.

Report corrections to your records by using our Suggest a Correction
feature prepopulated with record and personal preferences information.

Features Added in Previous Version of Web of Science
The last version of Web of Science included the following new
features.

Upgraded Author Finder and integrated the function with the Distinct Author
Sets function. Search for sets of records and single records that you can review
and refine within the Distinct Author Sets function.

Ugraded the Distinct Author Sets function to include a Refine option that
allows you to retrieve records from selected author sets by Subject Areas,
Institutions, Publication Years, Countries / Territories, and Source Titles. The
Add Middle Initial feature narrows your search to authors who have both a first
and middle initial.

Upgraded the Citation Report to include a total count for Citing Articles.
-
Integrated ResearcherID with Web of Science. Registered users can
search Web of Science, view their publication list at ResearcherID.com,
and log into their account.

Enhanced the Cited References page - the bibliographic results list is
similar in format to the Results and Citing Articles pages.

Search Precision & Rules
-
All search terms are searched. Stopwords are gone so a search on Vitamin A
gets Vitamin A.
-
Most fields support both right- and left-hand truncation using wildcards. For
example: *oxide matches peroxide, sulfoxide, nitric oxide, zinc
oxide, and more.
-
Support of the NEAR proximity operator allows for more precise results - find
records where terms joined by the operator are within a specified number of
words of each other.
-
Full author name searching returns precision results. For example: Blackburn
Elizabeth H* finds records by this author.

Linguistics Search Features
-
Automatically search for spelling variations (such as U.S. and U.K. spelling
differences) in Topic and Title search terms. Over 7,000 spelling variations are
available. For example, enter color to find spelling variants such as color and
colour.

Automatically map abbreviated address terms to known full address terms and
vice-versa. For example, enter Academy in the Address field to
find equivalent terms such as Acad, Akad, and Akademy.

Automatically search for term variants by using lemmatization. For example,
enter mouse and the system finds mouse and mice.

Greater Flexibility

New sort options allow you to manipulate your search results to quickly
identify needed records. Options include traditional [A-Z] sort options as well
as inverted sort options [Z-A]

Results are organized by Publication Date (default sort option), thus
allowing you to view the results of a search as you would see them on a library
shelf.

Refine results by product database in the All Databases function.

A True Citation Universe
-
View an All Databases Citation Summary table that displays a
breakdown of all Times Cited counts across all products and editions in Web
of Knowledge, including citation counts from product databases that are not
in your institution's subscription.

Value-added to non-citation database products by linking to Citing Articles,
Cited References, and Related Records in All Databases.
-
Enhancements in the unification of citation data across all citation indexes
in Web of Knowledge have reduced the number of duplicate records that
the product returns.

Link to previously saved EndNote Web records.

Manage and maintain up to 5,000 marked records from across all product

Adding Records to Your EndNote Web Account
To use this feature, you must be a registered user of Web of Knowledge
and you must sign in.
If you are not signed in after you select the record(s) to add to your
EndNote Web account, the system prompts you to sign in after you click
the Save to EndNote Web button. The system then returns you to
the Results or Full Record page where you will have to re-submit your records to
your EndNote Web library.

About SAME and Saved Searches
When you open a search history file created from a previous version of the
product, your search may yield more results if you had used the SAME operator in
your query. In the current version of Web of Knowledge, the SAME
operator works exactly like AND in most fields (such as the Topic and Title
fields).
For example, the search query:
TS=Bird Migration SAME TS=South America*
Is automatically translated in the current version of the product
into
TS=Bird Migration AND TS=South America*
And produces a larger set of search results than the original query.
When opening a saved search history file from a previous version of the
product, consider revising your query if you had used the SAME operator in the
query.
Note: The exception to the rule discussed, here, is the
Address field where
SAME operator
rules still apply.

When using this browser to view a Citation Map, we recommend that you
maximize the browser window to fully view graphical features within the Citation
Map.
Safari Web Browser
When using this browser to view a Citation Map, we recommend that you turn
off the pop-up blocker to fully run and view graphical features within the
Citation Map.
All Browsers
For all other Web browsers, we recommend that you turn on the pop-up blocker
to run and view graphical features within the Citation Map.

Journal Title Changes in Web of Science
The
journal
title list is posted on the Scientific business Web site of Thomson Reuters.
It includes new journal titles added to Web of Science over the past 12
months. The list also includes title changes, title updates, reactivations, and
dropped titles. The list is automatically updated each month and represents a
rolling 12-month list of journal title changes.
