Current Limits

This section of the search page allows you to select the following limits and settings: Timespan and Adjust Your Results Settings.

See also Databases for information about your database product.

Use the Timespan options to specify the time period that you wish to search.

  • All years – Searches all years in your current subscription. This is the default timespan setting.

  • Latest 5 years – Searches the current year and the last five cover journal publication years. For example, selecting this option would be equivalent to searching publication years from 2008 to 2012.

  • Year to date – Searches the current year -- only records with a cover date of the current year are included in the results.

  • Latest 4 weeks – Searches the last four weeks of data that we entered in the product database. This may include "early arrivals" or late arrivals" in the results.

  • Latest 2 weeks – Searches the last two weeks of data that we entered in the product database. This may include "early arrivals" or late arrivals" in the results.

  • Latest (current) week – Searches the most recent week of data that we entered in the product database. This may include "early arrivals" or late arrivals" in the results.

Did You Know ... An "early arrival" may be a January item arriving early in November. A "late arrival" may be a December item arriving in February?

Note 1: If you wish to search for journals with a cover date older than 12 months, then we suggest you select the All Years or Latest 5 Years timespan.

Note 2: Take note that the Biological Abstracts product database is updated semi-monthly (24 times per year).

  • From YYYY-MM-DD To – Searches a range of database years based on the publication year. The default value is generally the first coverage year up to the date when the product database was last updated.

If you select the Use processing date checkbox, the system allows you to search for records based on the date when the records were entered in the product database from June 1, 2011 to the present.

All records prior to April 1, 2011 are based on Publication Date--the date given on the cover of the journal.

  • Since – Searches the database from a specific date. If you are a registered user and have signed in, then a calendar appears prefilled with your last visit date.
