Journal Alerts

If your institution subscribes to Current Contents Connect, you may use the Create Alert feature to create and maintain a list of journals that you frequently read. You can also use this list to create and maintain the latest Table of Contents via e-mail alerts.

  • To add journals to your list, click the Add Journals button.

  • To modify your current journal settings, click the Edit button.

  • To go to the table of contents of the most recent journal issue, click the journal title link in the list.

Note: Holidays in India can delay regularly scheduled updates to Current Contents. If you do not receive a journal alert on the expected date, the next scheduled alert will include data from the previously scheduled alert. No journals issues are skipped because of holidays.

Journal Name

Each title on the list is linked to the table of contents of the most recent issue. Click a journal title link to go to the Current Contents Connect Browse Journals page.

List on Home Page

The titles you select appear in the right-hand column on the Basic Search page whenever you log on to Web of Science.

RSS Feed

To set up an RSS (Rich Site Summary) feed:

  1. Click the RSS Feed button to go to a Web page that displays the name of the selected journal.

  2. Click the Subscribe to this feed link to open a dialog box.

  3. Click the Subscribe button on the Subscribe to this Feed dialog.

The product automatically notifies you when a new issue has been added to Current Contents Connect. You do not need to renew the alert in order to continue to receive RSS feeds.

Alert Status

This column shows the status of the e-mail alert. If the status is Off, and you wish to turn it on, then click the Renew button.

If the status is On, the expiration date will display. Click the Renew button to renew the alert for one year beyond the displayed date.

Alert Options

Specify the e-mail address to receive the e-mail and an e-mail format. Use a semicolon (;) and a space to separate multiple e-mail addresses. The default value for this field is your registration / sign-in e-mail address.

The format of Alert Options is Plain Text.

Edit

Click the Edit link to make changes to:

  • E-mail Address to which the alert is sent

  • List on Home Page. This setting determines whether or not the journal title is displayed on the home search page.

  • The format of an alert (Plain Text or HTML)

Add Journals

Click the Add Journals button to go to the Add Journals page.

Step 1: Find the titles that you want to add to your journal list by using one of three methods.

  • Search Full Journal Titles: Enter a word or truncated word (for example, pharmac*) in the field, and then click Find.

  • Select Journals Alphabetically: Click the first letter of the journal title you want to find.

  • Browse Journal Titles by Subject: Select a Current Contents edition from the list, and then click Go. Click the name of a subject category to see a list of journals in that category.

Step 2: For each title that you add to your journal alerts list, select either or both of these options:

  • Display on Home Page: The titles you select appear in the right-hand column on the Search page whenever you log on to the system.

  • Send Me Table of Contents E-mail Alerts: The table of contents of the journal titles that you select are sent to the e-mail address you specify on the Modify Settings page when they become available. This option may not be available at your institution. If it is not, contact your System Administrator for more information.

Step 3: Click the Submit Selections button to complete the processing of your request.

Renew Button

Alerts have three states: On Off, and Expired.

Click the Renew button to renew On and Expired alerts and to renew the expiration date of active alerts. Once you click the button, the Alerting status for Expired alerts changes to On and the expiration date is six months in the future from the current date.

Delete Button

Select the check box of any journal name if you wish to remove that title from the Journals Alerts page.

If you remove a title from the home page or cancel the e-mail alert, the title remains on the Journal Alerts page unless you select the journal and then click the Delete button.

E-mail Formats

Plain Text

An ASCII text file.

HTML

Hypertext Markup Language. This format is suitable for display by a Web browser.

EndNote

A field-delimited format that can be imported directly into a reference management applications such as:

  • EndNote®
  • Reference Manager®
  • RefWorks
  • Sente
  • Biblioscape

Field Tagged

A field-delimited format suitable for use with reference management applications such as:

  • EndNote
  • Reference Manager

If you use one of these products, we recommend that you select the Field Tagged format to simplify the import process.

What is a RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary (also known as Really Simple Syndication).

RSS is a content delivery vehicle also known as a web feed. Data is in XML format. Content distributors publish frequently updated news and other Web content in many places on the Web. Users can subscribe to an RSS feed and receive the updated content as it is published. RSS feeds can include full or summarized text and metadata such as publishing dates and author names.
