Enter an institution and/or place name from an author's address to search for records based on the author's address. Note that common institution and address terms such as Institute and University are abbreviated.

Because the Address field in the product includes all author addresses supplied by the source document, use the SAME search operator to search for two or more words that appear within the same address. For example:

• Enter Novartis SAME Barcelona to search for documents in which Novartis and Barcelona appear in the same address (to find an author whose address is Norvartis in Barcelona).

• Enter Harvard SAME Med to search for documents in which Harvard and Med appear in the same address (to search for an author whose address is Harvard Medical School).

Note that common institution and address terms such as Institute and University are abbreviated. Abbreviations for certain institutions can vary, especially if they are abbreviated in the source publication. To be comprehensive, search for different abbreviations of the same institution.

• New York Univ OR NYU finds records in which at least one address includes New York Univ or NYU.

• Oak Ridge Natl Lab OR ORNL finds documents in which at least one address includes Oak Ridge Natl Lab or ORNL.

Using Address Abbreviations

• Check the list of corporate and institution abbreviations to see if an institution's name (for example, Centers for Disease Control) should be abbreviated. Note that corporate and institutional names that do not appear on this list may be abbreviated in the product if the address appears abbreviated in the source publication.

• Check the list of other address abbreviations to see if any other part of the author's address, such as the street address or department/division name, should be abbreviated.

• Check the list of state and country abbreviations for U.S. states and countries.

• Tufts finds records where Tufts is in the Address field

• Tufts SAME Med finds records where Tufts and Med (for Medical) are in the Address field.

• Univ Washington finds records of papers from authors at the University of Washington.

• Uppsala Univ finds records of papers from authors at Uppsala University.

• CDC finds records of papers from authors at the Centers for Disease Control.

• IBM SAME San Jose finds records where IBM and San Jose are in the same address.

Search Tip

To search on an address that contains a Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME), enclose the name in quotation marks. Example: Portland "OR"
