Custom Summary Table

Depending on your selections, the summary table shows daily statistics for these variables:

Variable   Description

Subsessions

Number of successful logons (connections) to ISI Current Contents Connect.

Queries

A query submits a request for results to a database. A query is recorded when a user clicks one of the following buttons or links in ISI Current Contents Connect:

  • Search on any page where it submits a database search. Clicking Search to go to another page in ISI Current Contents Connect does not record a query.
  • Run on the View History page. A query will be recorded for every set created when the history is run.
  • A link to a table of contents from a journal issue
  • The Web Sites link on a Browse page
  • Current Web Contents link on a full record
In addition, the set created by an alert counts as a query. (An alert is a saved history that is automatically run every week.)

Citation Events

A citation event is an action that uses the citation data in ISI Web of Science. A citation event is recorded when a user clicks one of the following buttons or links in ISI Current Contents Connect:

  • Find Related Records on the Full Record page
  • Times Cited on the Full Record page
  • Cited References on the Full Record page
The citation event in ISI Current Contents Connect also counts as a query in ISI Web of Science.

Records Viewed   Number of full records viewed. The records shown on a summary list of results are not counted.

Records Exported   Number of records exported to EndNote®, ProCite®, or Reference Manager® when the user clicks the Export to Reference Software button.

Records Saved   Number of records that are saved to a file when a user clicks the Save to File button.

Records Printed   Number of records that are displayed when a user clicks the Format for Print button.

Records Emailed   Number of records e-mailed when a user clicks the E-mail button.

Records Ordered   Number of records for which full-text source documents are requested when a user clicks the Order Full Text button.

TOCs Viewed   Number of journal tables of contents displayed.

CWCs Viewed

Number of Current Web Contents records viewed. Current Web Contents is a database of Web sites that have been selected by editors at Thomson ISI. The CWCs viewed are the full records of the Web sites. Records on a summary list are not counted.

eSearches Viewed   Number of eSearch records viewed. eSearch submits a search performed in Current Contents Connect to the Web. An eSearch result is a page from a Web site.

Total Items Requested

This is the sum of the numbers in the same row for these variables:

  • Records Viewed
  • Records Exported
  • Records Saved
  • Records Printed
  • Records Emailed
  • Records Ordered
  • TOCs Viewed
  • CWCs Viewed
  • eSearches Viewed

At the bottom of the table are two rows showing:

Total Use   Sum of the numbers in each column. This is the total use for the month.

Average Use   Average (arithmetic mean) of the numbers in the columns. This is the average use for the month.

If you selected the option to Include IP Addresses and Token IDs on the Create a Custom Summary Report page, then the table will have an additional column with this heading: IP Address/Token ID. To the right of the IP Address or Token ID in the same row are usage statistics for that identifier. The date of usage is in the row above and to the left of the identifier.

For example, this report shows that on January 1, 2003, the person(s) using a computer whose IP address is 123.45.678 submitted 29 queries and 7 citation events to ISI Current Contents Connect:

Custom Summary Graph

Usage is plotted on a two-dimensional graph at the bottom indicating usage trends for these variables:

The points on the Y-axis (ordinate) show the usage numbers for the dates on the X-axis (abscissa).

Note: If usage statistics are broken down by IP Address and Token ID, no graph will appear. If you want to see usage data plotted on a graph, return to the Usage Reports Home page and select ISI Current Contents Connect again. On the page for selecting the type of usage report, clear the check box Include IP Addresses and Token IDs under the type of report you want.
