My Preferences

Update your contact information (e-mail address, password, and name), change your preference for automatic sign-in, and select a starting application using this feature.

Edit My Information

  1. Enter your current password in the Current Password field.

  2. Enter the new or corrected information for only those items you want to change.

  3. At the bottom of the form, note the current selection for automatic sign-in. Change this setting if you want to be signed in automatically each time you access Web of Knowledge. This feature uses cookie technology.

  4. Click Submit Changes.

Select a Starting Application

You can pick a starting application in your product subscription that will immediately appear each time you begin a new search session.

You must use the Automatic Sign In feature for this feature to work. The selected application will appear as soon as you start a new session.

Follow these instructions if you wish to set up a particular product database within your institution's entitlement subscription as your starting application.

  1. Click the Sign In link that appears in the menu bar at the top of any Web page in Web of Knowledge.

  2. Enter your e-mail address and password on the Sign In page.

  3. Return to the Search page and click the Preferences link that appears in the right column under the My Web of Knowledge heading.

  4. Click the Select a Starting Application link.

  5. Click the Web of Science radio button (or anther product database) in the table to make that product the starting application.

  6. Click the Submit Changes button.

  7. Click the Edit My Information link.

  8. Enter your password in the Current Password field.

  9. Click the Sign me in automatically radio button.

  10. Click the Submit Changes button.

  11. Check to ensure that you receive the message: "Your account has been updated."

  12. Click the Exit Preferences link.

The next time you start a new search session, the system will automatically take you to the selected product database.

Select a Language

The language you select will display automatically each time you sign in. Your choices are English, Simplified Chinese, or Japanese.

  1. Select the language that you wish to see when you sign in to Web of Knowledge.

  2. Click Submit Changes.

  3. Click the Exit Preferences link to return to your product database.

You can also select the Chinese, Japanese, or English language link that appears at the bottom of any product page to the right of the View In heading.

Accessing My Preferences

To go to My Preferences, you must be a registered user and you must sign in. After signing in:

  1. Go to the Search page of any product database or go to the All Databases Search page.

  2. Click the Preferences link that appears under the My Web of Knowledge section in the right-hand column.

About Required Fields

Required fields are marked by the asterisk (*) character.

About Passwords

If you are registering for the first time, then you must create a password to access your account.

A password must be eight or more characters in length. It must have at least one number, one alphabetic character, and one special character such as:

  • Dollar sign ( $ )
  • Percent sign ( % )
  • Underscore ( _ )
  • Ampersand ( & )
  • and other special characters

A password cannot match any of the previous four passwords.
