Descriptors: Field Tags and Descriptions

The following table lists the descriptors that you can use in a search query from the Advanced Search page.

Demographics

Search for terms relating to the demographic limits of the data such as populations or subpopulations used in the research that created the data. Most commonly applied to the fields in the Social Sciences.

DY

Data Type

Search for the overall type of data provided.

  • Expression profiling by array
  • Genome variation profiling by genome tiling array
  • Non-coding RNA profiling by array

GN

Gene Name

Search for gene names featured as the focus of the data record.

  • DNA-M
  • DNA-N
  • DNA-U1

GS

Geospatial

Search for geographical or other geospatial terms associated with the data and which are significant in interpreting the data and the location where the data were gathered, but not the location of the laboratory where the work was done or the author’s location.

Information presented is usually at the level of country or state and optionally carries broader term classifiers. Countries and states carry broader term classifiers to continent level. Continents and other non geographical terms may carry no classifier.

GT

Time

Search for any form of time or timespan associated with the data or the period over which the data were gathered. These terms may be named periods, years or dates.
