Cited Reference Search: Step 2 of 2

This page displays cited references that contain the information you entered on the Cited Reference Search page.

For example, if you enter Riley P* as a cited author and Ann* NY* as a cited work, you will see cited references that contain the author name Riley P and the abbreviated journal title ANN NY ACAD SCI (for Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences).

Every reference listed on the page has been cited by at least one article indexed in the product.

  • References are sorted alphabetically by cited author.

  • References containing the same cited author are sorted alphabetically by cited work.

  • References with the same cited author and cited work are sorted in reverse chronological order by cited year.

Selecting References from the Index and Retrieving Citing Articles

Select references by one of the following methods:

  • Select the check box to the left of each reference you want.

  • Click Select Page to select all references on the page.

  • Click Select All to select all references found by your search up to a maximum of 500.

To retrieve citing articles, click Finish Search. Each of the citing articles you retrieve will contain at least one of the references you selected.

Show Expanded Titles/View Record

Click Show Expanded Titles to see full article titles and journal titles on this page. Click View Record to go to the Full Record of a cited item.

If a reference cannot be expanded and has no View Record link:

  • The item is a reference to an article published outside the range of your subscription. For example, if you subscribe to the 10 most recent years of Web of Science and the reference is to an article published in 1982, the reference will not have a View Record link.

  • The item is a reference to an article published in a journal that is not indexed in Web of Science.

  • The item is a reference to a book, a thesis, or another type of publication that is not indexed in Web of Science.

  • The item contains incorrect or missing information and therefore cannot be linked to a Full Record. It is most likely a variation of another cited reference that is linked to a Full Record.

Note The full title of the cited item appears in a box when you point your cursor to the View Record link.

About the Ellipses

The ellipses ( ... ) before an author's name signify that the author is a secondary author, not the first author of a cited article. Click Show Expanded Titles to see if the author is a secondary author of an article.

To find the first author of an article, click the title link to go to the Full Record.
